Art lovers in Bruges now have a new high-end hotspot for visual arts in BRUSK. A compelling production was created to welcome the art gallery in style. The Believers from John&Jane makes Sense took the performance to new heights with slick audiovisual support.
For a whole weekend, the building – sleek, grand and bathed in natural light – was given its own heartbeat. The musical composition “BRUSK, forms in motion” by Bruges composer Patrick Hamilton sounded like an ode to the city, inspired by canals, bells and the rhythm of the Belfry.
Vision in motion
Outside the building’s walls, Bruges also came to life. La Grande Araignée, a monumental spider by the French Compagnie La Machine, gave the city centre a magical touch. John&Jane makes Sense put its weight behind the light and sound direction of platforms and a final show on 't Zand that stunned its audience into silence. The Sleeping Arachnid on 't Zand and its nest in the Visartpark were illuminated in detail. As tightrope walker Lyapunov gracefully bridged the distance between the Belfry and the Church of Our Lady, many spectators' hearts were in their mouths. It was a unique production that spotlit Bruges as a city of art, thanks to Stad Brugge and Brugge Plus.
For John&Jane makes Sense, technology is never just technology. With the right lighting and audio, installed and operated by experts, a production can really be brought to life. Emotion, rhythm, storytelling: it all starts with light and sound. And BRUSK? That was Bruges letting its heart be heard for a moment.
